When the Left and Right Match Firepower

In The Untouchables, Sean Connery’s G-man spelled out the rules of the game. “They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That’s the Chicago way! Now do you want to do that? Are you ready to do that? I’m offering you a deal. Do you want this deal?”

I was reminded of Connery’s famous speech while watching the left-wing vapours over Donald Trump’s bruising campaign win versus Hillary Clinton, the pantsuited capo di tuti capo of the Democrats. From the editorial boards at almost every major American newspaper to the MSNBC meltdowners to the undergrad street buskers marching for justice— everyone was appalled at Trump’s brusque tactics.

Well, if you guys are upset, maybe you brought Trump upon yourselves. After seeing Obama’s Chicago Democrats turn an uncomplaining Mitt Romney into a psychopath inflicting cancer upon his employees and a dog abuser to boot, the alt right made the logical conclusion to match firepower next election— and then some. In short order they brought a gun to a knife fight. That would be a Trump 306 (as in electoral votes).

Is Trump a true friend of the little man? Not likely. Does he eat KD for dinner? Nah. When was the last time he took public transit? The fourth of never. But he was willing to fill the “morgue” to get even for Romney and countless GOP victims. That was enough for Flyover America.

Naturally the incandescent left was appalled at someone matching firepower with them. They’re furious at Trump’s language, his coiffure and, most of all, for his taking the oxygen out of their safe space with his immigration talk. The nerve… reducing their kabuki marches to a third-rate Bridge On The River Why? This is supposed to be about us!

The leading man in the Outrage Olympics has been CNN panel puppet Van Jones, a former member of President Obama’s team when it entered office in 2008. Jones (who graduated from Yale Law) calls himself a “social-justice accelerator”— which is prog-speak for “in a huge hurry to get my way”. For Van, the past is always in the passenger seat fiddling with the climate control. He can’t look up the highway for fear that the electorate will let go of the past.

Which is how he misses that, while only 20 percent of whites in Appalachia have college degrees, they must listen to elitists like Jones insist that blacks are the real disadvantaged ones in America. Black Lives Matter get all the love in the Obama DC bubble, but a county like Clay County, Kentucky— the poorest in the U.S. with a 94 percent white population— is told they have white privilege.

Jones’ put-upon performance comes in the manner of an aggrieved parent contemplating the prospect that Barack Obama won’t be spinning the hits in the White House. “What do I tell my children about Trump?…” he beseeches listeners before each rumination, which inevitably ends with his modest dreams of social reconstruction, starring Van Jones.

He’s also something of a “social-justice bad loser”. When Trump was declared the winner last Tuesday, Jones blamed it on “white-lash”. i.e. Things didn’t go my way. Jones has spent the intervening days digging himself a nice deep trench by reducing everything to race. Self awareness is not a big Van thing.

Sunday, he was still at it, using his huffy voice to tell Mary Matalin (wife of Democrat legend James Carville) to show him some respect when she demanded he show leadership and drop the racial claims on the election. Honestly, I thought hosts George Stephanopoulos was going to plotz himself.

But Van and the student marchers have spent the last eight years in the wake of Eric Holder calling Americans “cowards” on race and Michelle Obama saying she was only proud of her country when her husband got the White House. As such they can’t fathom the prospect of not winning all the time. There’s always a participation ribbon, no? Everyone goes home happy on Oprah, yes? My mark will get raised by the Bell Curve, won’t it? So he told Matalin the it’s still 1963 at his house. And unicorns roam the prairie.

Sadly for Van and the #calexit loonies, this box of Loser Puffs won’t come with a prize inside. For all their demonstrating and remonstrating, the Electoral College isn’t going to reject the vote. With the GOP controlling every level of office in the country, the kvetchers chances of a grassroots rebellion stand at zero. And with Republicans owning all the private guns in circulation, talk of revolutionaries overthrowing their legislatures and homes might prove a ventilating experience.

For now, they’ll just have to settle for at least four more years of hating white culture till they can convince Michelle Obama to test Trump in 2020.
